Philosophy The company philosophy is built on service without ego, quick turnaround times and a contractor eye for constructability and cost control. We use our knowledge and expertise of the project design, delivery and construction to provide you with more included services and lower fees than our competition. We thrive on challenges. If your project looks difficult or impossible, we will be interested, especially if there are dreams that have been shelved for cost or code reasons. We recently re-designed a project for 1/10th of the original construction cost and 1/20th of the fee! The architectural field is littered with firms that treat architecture as an off the shelf commodity rather than a service. Those firms are becoming obsolete. Design as a service is our passion. Welcome to our Foundation. Inspiration We lease 1,350 sq ft from the Hide House in Bay View. The Hide House is a community of designers and artists located in a renovated tannery two miles south of downtown Milwaukee. Being part of an artistic community speaks to who we are and strive to be as architects. Our space features exposed wood framing, cream city brick and original wood tannery flooring. Our renovation of the interior is highly sustainable utilizing reclaimed steel for desk bases, used furniture, reclaimed wood from the building, recycled carpet and refurbished office equipment. Knowledge We currently hold architectural licenses in three states and our NCARB certification allows us to become licensed in any state as the opportunity arises. We use the latest Revit, Autocad and 3d modeling applications to ensure our product is compatible with the full range of energy modeling and clash detection coordination technologies for our consultants, clients and their contractors. Craig brings construction management experiences to the architectural practice allowing a greater understanding of what the contractor needs. Construction experience allows us to create documents with cost and constructability in mind and helps facilitate communication during construction. Code Challenges? We love 'em! We have proven experience working with the commercial building code, municipalities, and local officials to find solutions to "impossible" problems. Our Firm Foundation Architects was conceived in January 2006 as a vehicle to transition a group of like-minded architects from working for large “bottom line oriented” architecture firms to a small customer service based company. The company was started as a sole proprietorship by Craig Eide in May 2007. Steady growth in project types and volume of work with private clients, developers and contractors led to the formation of Foundation Architects, LLC in June 2009. Croatian Park Entrance Gate Foundation Architects led collaborative planning meetings with the city development office staff, the Milwaukee County Highway Design Department, Environmental Scientists and Aldermen to provide a design that met the intent of the City’s Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) including the natural resources protection plan (NRPP). The project consists of the removal of a portion of a chain link gate and fence and replacing them with a new brick masonry surround, decorative metal fencing and swing gates featuring the name of the park. The masonry structure has embedded cast plaques that commemorate American and Croatian national crests and 20’ flag poles featuring the American and Croatian flags respectively. Spaulding Clinical The challenge was to create phased renovations to an existing building that captured the spirit of the cutting edge work performed here and build upon brand image work created by a marketing agency to provide an integrated brand and facility. Callanan’s Parkway Pub The Owner’s vision for this previously foreclosed property at the entrance to the city of West Allis is a phased renovation first addressing cosmetic issues like paint and signage, then the addition of a new wood deck for outdoor dining and finally the acquisition of the adjacent corner property. The deck will be constructed on the south side of the building facing Oklahoma Avenue. A stone veneer wall topped by an ivy-covered cedar lattice conceals views of the existing HVAC equipment. The deck project will be followed by a new vestibule entrance on the “front” west entrance. We anticipate construction beginning in the spring of 2011. Sherman Park Lutheran School The school's main entrance is through a shared lobby that serves the school and gymnasium. The owner wanted a welcoming design and first impression for prospective parents. Colors introduced on the lobby floor are used thoughout the renovation and draw people through the stair to the main office. Along the way, parents will receive visual reinforcement about the facility, its mission and core values as part of the design. A unified visual design was created to make the experience within the learning environment consistent and reassuring to students, parents and staff. Work Feature Project, On the Boards, Recent Work
